Hot cinnamon rice cereal treats
Sweet with a twist – just like you! These treats are a different spin on the classic treat, and the best part? They’re easy to make!
- 9 cups of your favorite rice cereal
- 2, 10-ounce bags of mini marshmallows
- 3/4 cup of unsalted butter
- Dash of cinnamon extract
- Pinch of salt
- Can of your favorite vanilla icing
- Cinnamon hard candies
- Parchment paper
- Nonstick spray
Line a 9x13 baking pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease with nonstick spray.
Melt the butter over low heat in a very large pot, stirring often. Next, add the marshmallows, one cup at a time. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
Remove the pot from heat and immediately stir in the cinnamon extract and salt. Add the cereal, one cup at a time, stirring until all the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow and butter mixture.
Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan using a rubber spatula. Do not pack down with force. Let cool.
Allow to cool for at least an hour. Once cool, lift the treats out of the pan using the parchment paper. Frost with your favorite vanilla icing and cut into evenly sized squares.
While frosting is still sticky, top with cinnamon candy dust. To crush the candies, unwrap them and place them in a resealable plastic bag, being sure to remove all air from the bag before closing. Then crush to a fine powder with a rolling pin or wine bottle.
Pour candy mixture into a shallow bowl, and dip the rice cereal treats into candy, frosting side down, to evenly coat.
