PARTNERS FOR A BETTER ENVIRONMENT
Duraflame is actively spreading the word about the environmental benefits of its fire logs to consumers, air quality officials, and non-profit organizations. Duraflame applies its resources toward education and outreach opportunities.
The goals are simple. Duraflame strives to:
- Make excellent products that help people enjoy an environmentally-friendly, convenient and reliable cozy fire.
- Help people use their fireplaces responsibly to protect neighborhood air quality.
- Help preserve a stable global climate.
Through partnerships with the following non-profit organizations, as well as local air quality management agencies, Duraflame is actively spreading the word about the environmental benefits of fire logs.

The Climate Institute has recognized that burning bio-wax fire logs instead of cordwood or natural gas is an effective way of reducing household carbon emissions output. Founded in 1986, The Climate Institute is an international leader in moving nations, regions and people to address climate change in a collaborative manner. The Climate Institute informs key decision makers on climate change and heightens international awareness of the issues and associated challenges. The Climate Institute also continually works to identify practical ways of achieving significant emissions reductions.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency issues temporary bans on indoor and outdoor burning when the weather trends toward stagnant conditions, such as air inversions, which trap the fine particle pollution emitted from our chimneys, cars, trucks, and other activities. When air quality is poor, Stage I or II burn bans may be implemented. During times when air quality is good, PSCAA advocates the use of fire logs as a clean burning alternative. Duraflame and PSCAA have been in partnership for years to promote clean burning practices by using Duraflame fire logs on days when burning is allowed. Joint outreach programs have been developed to communicate this “burn clean” message through TV and radio commercials, public radio sponsorships and grocery bag messaging.
The Spokane area of Washington has been impacted by winter air quality concerns because of its topography. In an effort to educate the public about better options for wood burning, Duraflame has partnered with Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency on TV and radio commercials and giveaways for the past few years. The Spokane Clean Air Agency advocates for the use of fire logs as a substitute of using cordwood in open hearth fireplaces.
DEQ State of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Woodstoves 101 is a big component of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality's efforts on residential wood burning in Portland and the surrounding areas within the state. The agency offers fire logs as an example for what to do in a fireplace for a responsible fire. Recently, Duraflame and the Oregon DEQ teamed up to offer information about fire logs in the Chinook Book and a coupon for fire logs.
The San Joaquin Valley in California has been impacted by air quality concerns because of its topography. In an effort to educate the public about better options for how to burn cleanly when burning is allowed, Duraflame has partnered with San Joaquin Valley Air Quality Management District on TV and radio commercials coupled with giveaways and fire log discounts included in the District's outreach programs. SJVAQMD advocates for the use of fire logs as a cleaner burning alternative to wood in open hearth fireplaces.
